Meet Courtney... A CHEO success story!
Courtney looks like a healthy little five-year-old now but at just three weeks of age she needed the doctors, nurses and staff at CHEO to save her life. Courtney was diagnosed with Finnish Type Nephrotic Syndrome, a rare kidney disease; so rare in fact she is one of very few people in Canada with this disease. Courtney's first stay at CHEO lasted until she was seven and a half months old when she still only weighed 12 pounds! At only two and a half months old her first kidney was removed in order to reduce protein loss through her urine but when this did not resolve the problem entirely, the second kidney had to be removed and she started peritoneal dialysis (PD) until her transplant. Courtney had luck on her side as her dad was a perfect match and would become the donor. Courtney's body accepted the new kidney and she continues to do very well. Her family and doctors are all so thrilled with how well she has recovered from surgery. Proceeds from the Millionaire Lottery can help children like Courtney face terrible illness and beat the odds! Your Millionaire Lottery ticket purchase helps CHEO treat thousands of children, like Courtney, and helps the Foundation fulfill our mission, which is: "To further the physical, mental and social well-being of children and their families in Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec by raising, managing, and disbursing funds." |
